I am Julia Downes and I am a performing artist based in NYC, though I am originally from Virginia. Ever since I can remember I have been singing and telling stories to anyone who would listen, be it in my home, in the car on the way to dance class, or on the stage. Musical theatre speaks most to me as an art form that transcends common conversation and connects hearts all over the world.

I began my journey in musical theatre at a young age performing in theatre shows all over Northern Virginia. From golden age musicals, to jukebox musicals and everything in between, I found my true passion in storytelling through music very early on in my life. I was fortunate to be cast in three musicals performing Off-Broadway at Theatre Row in Times Square. Those experiences fueled my passion for storytelling and I knew I had to chase my dream of professionally pursuing theatre. I graduated from Charles J. Colgan High School Center for the Fine and Performing Arts and moved to New York City where I began intensive training to pursue this career. I am currently studying at the Institute for American Musical Theatre under the direction and guidance of Michael Minarik, Tonna Miller Valles, and Lindsay Lancaster.
